Milestone 1
Milestone 1: Design Phase Complete

Congratulations!
You’ve completed the first phase of the Apstra Test Drive by designing your data centre network in software. This is a significant accomplishment that demonstrates how Apstra allows you to model your entire network before deploying any physical hardware.
What You’ve Accomplished:
✅ Understood Apstra’s building blocks - Logical Devices, Interface Maps, and Device Profiles
✅ Created rack types - Modelled both single-leaf and dual-leaf (ESI) rack designs
✅ Built a network template - Assembled your rack types into a complete data centre fabric design
✅ Created a blueprint - Instantiated your template with specific resource assignments
Why This Matters:
This design-first approach transforms how networks are built. Rather than deploying hardware and then figuring out how to configure it, you’ve created a complete model of your intended network. This model serves as a single source of truth for your network’s design and ensures consistent implementation.
What’s Coming Next:
In the next section, we’ll transition to exploring Day 2 operations using a pre-configured blueprint called "SE Demo." This will allow us to focus on the operational aspects of Apstra, including:
-
Expanding physical capacity
-
Creating logical network segmentation
-
Connecting servers and external systems
-
Monitoring network health
-
Safely managing configuration changes
